Montana 529 plan
Montana’s 529 plan is called Achieve Montana. It is administered by Montana Board of Regents of Higher Education. Ascensus College Savings Recordkeeping Services provides record keeping, as well as other administrative services. Charles Schwab Investment Management, Vanguard Group, Blackrock Fund Advisors, Dimensional Fund Advisors LP, and New York Life Insurance Company provide investment management for the various portfolios.

Montana Years of Enrollment Portfolios - plan type 1
- Invests in Mutual Funds, ETFs, Cash Equivalents
- Automatic rebalancing of portfolios
- Portfolio rebalance to more conservative investments over time
Montana Asset Allocation Portfolios - plan type 2
- These portfolios are invested in various mutual funds and ETFs
- Each fund has different investment objectives
Montana Individual Portfolios - plan type 3
- Invests in Ishare’s Total U.S. Stock Market Index Fund
- U.S. Equity Index tracks the Russell 3000 index which tracks the broad stock market
- Bond Index Fund invests in the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF
- Capital Preservation Portfolio invests in the New York Life Guranteed Interest Account
- These portfolios are passively Managed
